My Mother

Today is my mom’s birthday. What can I say about her?ย  She is probably the most important person in my life. I have learned so much from her it is impossible to list it all. We’ve argued often, of course, especially when I was younger but nowadays arguments are rare. She is one of the few people who truly gets me and never judged me at all. She have many weaknesses and strength. She has done many extraordinary things in her life and many mistakes too. She is not perfect but she is my mom. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I love you so so much mom. Happy Birthday ๐Ÿ™‚

Because I enjoy tempting my best friend

Manda! Here are some links I thought you would like (mwahahahahaha)

Poems (Remember I’ve told you about them? Go look at Pablo Neruda’s and this is the one I’ve mentioned [warning: possible tear jerker])

Ten Thousand Questions (Really interesting ones that prompt you to think [cuz you don’t do that often enough])

I Wrote This For You (Really really sweet)

The rest, you can find on the blogroll. Just curious, which ones have you visited?

The Raven and The Writing Desk

Guess what I did today!

Yup! I went to watch Alice in Wonderland (3D) since it came out today in Singapore and it’s my no-lab week! It’s really really really awesome I’m telling you. Totally live up to the hype. The 3D effect is gorgeous and didn’t leave me dizzy like Avatar did (FYI, in my humble opinion, this movie is better than Avatar. However, they each have their own charm).

I’m honestly surprised about how much I love this Alice movie because well, I (used to) have….an aversion to Alice. Mainly because of this person:

Yup, Disney’s animated Queen ofย  Heart. So the story is, when I was a kid (probably around 6 or 7) my mom bought the laser disc (remember those?) for Disney’s Alice in Wonderland. I watched and to put it gently, it wasn’t a pleasant experience. The Queen of Heart was a horrid horrid woman I’m telling you. She keep on screaming and ill-treating all those people. She just won’t stop. And then there is the nasty flowers, the confusing blue caterpillar and the mean evil walrus. Plus that end scene where everyone is chasing Alice and shouting for her to be captured. So yeah… I didn’t like it and begged my mom to never make me watch that ever again. Trust Tim Burton to turn something I hate to something I love haha. Well, actually if I hadn’t watched that movie as a kid I might not dislike Alice. After all, the book is part of a genre I love (quirky, weird, fantasy world with scientific allegories? Sign me up!)

So, after watching the movie, I became very curious about the book and wanted to read it so I went to Page One. I ended up with this haul:

Yup I bought four books. Those are:

Arthur Spiderwick’s Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You

by Toni DiTerlizzi and Holly Black

I’ve been wanting this book for so long! What is there not to love about it? The illustrations are lovely and it is an encyclopedia of faerie! (I’m currently looking for Faeries by Brian Froud, hopefully it is still in print!)

The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories by Tim Burton

I’ve said this before and I will say this again. I love Tim Burton.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass

by Lewis Carroll

Alice’s Adventures Under Ground by Lewis Carroll

Now, you are probably wondering why I brought two copies of Alice. The second book is actually a print of the original manuscript written and illustrated by Lewis Carroll himself to be given to Alice Pleasance Liddell, the girl who was the inspiration for Alice. Here’s a look inside the book (picture from Wikipedia):

Amazing isn’t it? It possess such a precious charm that I couldn’t resist buying it haha.

Speaking of purchases, here are the few items I’ve bought recently:

Skull earphone

I bought this from a vendor in my school and I love love love it so much! It’s comfortable, the sound quality is good and it is really cheap (less that $30)! Plus, the skulls are awesome ^_^

(L-R)

Adzuki Bean and Rice Shower Gel ( Spa Wisdom Japan)

Japanese Cherry Blossom Bath and Shower Gel

Adzuki Bean and Rice Washing Grains (Spa Wisdom Japan)

Japanese Cherry Blossom Puree Body Lotion

All of them are from The Body Shop. I’m telling you, my guilty pleasure is toiletries. I love soaps and shampoos much more than I love make up and perfume and Body Shop is pretty much my favourite place to buy toiletries ^_^

Wow, that is a long post! Okay, going off now to admire my books! ^_^

Coming Soon

Okay, I’m procrastinating now…. So going to pay for this tomorrow.

Bought some stuff lately. Will make a post about that tomorrow.

My room is finally tidy and I love it <3. It's still as hot as a sauna though to the point where I'm wishing snowpocalypse will hit Singapore for just 1 week.

I am procrastinating. Welcome to Mid-terms Week

Shopping!

Okay, so I went on a shopping spree yesterday and surprisingly I bought make-up! Anyone who knows me know that I don’t wear make up ๐Ÿ˜› However, lately I’ve been hearing a lot about you know, how as a girl I should know the basics of wearing make-up and I think this is kinda true. I don’t think it is about being a girl, I think it is about making yourself presentable. So I tried it out and it turns out to be quite fun! I think I will have much fun experimenting with it ๐Ÿ™‚

So without further ado, these are what I bought yesterday:

Topshop Heart Tights

(not as nice as I thought it would be but I think it will look nice with my boots)

Forever 21 Red Anchor necklace

Make up!

Mac make-up

ZA Foundation

Brushes kit from Watson

Close ups:

Lipstick -Equality (Lustre)

Lipgloss – C-Thru

Eyeshadow – Brulรฉ (Left) and Soba (Right)

These are all from the All Ages, All Races, All Sexes collection. I mostly bought neutral and beige-y colours because I think those are easier to mix and match and I prefer my make up to be natural looking anyway. However, I’m also tempted to try some colours (blue maybe) for my eye-shadow. Haha, but not now, probable in 3 months or so. I just want to get the hang of the basics first!

So here’s my entire make-up collection

Not much compared to others but it’s good enough for now ๐Ÿ™‚ Oh and I apologise for the low quality pictures, my phone’s camera sucks.

School updates

It’s seems like it has been a really long time since I’ve talked about school in this blog haha (which is the good thing :P). My timetable for this semester is finally confirmed, tutorials and all. It’s slightly better than last semester’s but I still have no free day ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

My classes are interesting so far, I have to read the Bible for one of it! Nothing controversial, but it certainly brings a new perspective. I also have to read Xenophon: Education of Cyrus, Confucius and Machiavelli’s The Prince. Woww…. I’ll probably dedicate an entry just for this class haha. Interesting reads, the books are expensive though but at least I considered them an investment ๐Ÿ˜›

Japanese 3 is quite difficult, it deals with a lot more grammar and linguistics, but at least I like my sensei ๐Ÿ™‚ He’s very funny haha. Oh yeah, that reminded me, I wanted to write an entry in Japanese but have not done so until now!

Ah well, gotta go print my notes now!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

It’s Christmas! Happy Christmas! I love you!

To everyone out there, may this Christmas be a joyous and wonderful one. To all my friends who are reading this, I โค you and thanks for being in my life. To passing strangers, you are loved ๐Ÿ™‚

Yay, it’s Christmas!

Daily report

Hi!

Wow, I really haven’t blog for quite some time huh? Mainly it is because I don’t really know what to say. I’ve been feeling restless lately, especially with my hair. I feel like I’m constantly having bad hair days! I wanna try to go for the hair smoothing process, I’m sick of my hair being uncontrollable! I’ll probably go do it tomorrow or Wednesday, hopefully it turns out well!

Last friday was holiday here in Indo so went out with the family for some shopping haha. Went to Sushi Tei for lunch and then me and nana went off to do our own shopping. I bought a bag, a cardigan and a scarf. Didn’t buy clothes cuz I didn’t see anything that I liked. Will probably take pictures later and update this post.

Oh yeah, we went to see Avatar on saturday. Well…one thing you should know about that show is that you shouldn’t watch that movie for the plot (which is super generic), you watch that movie for the special effects (which were really awesome by the way even though at some points it looks as if the director was high on LSD during filming)

Don’t know why I’m feeling this restless…probably sign that shark week is coming soon (at least I hope this is the reason). Anyway, I still feel like doing some shopping so I’ll probably drag my sister to the mall soon ๐Ÿ˜€

P.S. Haha, you know Manda, originally I was planning to leave P&P&Z here but since you wanted to borrow it I’ll bring it back ^^

Aftermath

So, exam’s over and my phone magically fixed itself. Life is good haha! Went shopping on tuesday with Char but didn’t buy much cuz there wasn’t any interesting items. But I bought books though, finished one already and currently reading ‘The Book of the Dead’ by Patricia Cornwell. Not bad, quite intriguing. 2012 was not bad. Awesome special effects.

Went out with Manda today, watched ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’. Quite cool and funny in a quirky way. Bought more books, seems like I’m going on a book spree! I bought ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith. So awesome, can’t wait to read it haha. Along that note, I can’t wait to watch Zombieland.

I’ll probably dragged my sister to watch with me. Gah, so many movies I want to watch. Daybreakers, The Legion, Avatar (saw the trailer during 2012, awesome awesome awesome….and possibly Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 (Love them since I was a kid. Especially now that the Chippetes are featured in this movie). Sounds like it’s gonna be a fun holiday!

P.S: I am so happy that I don’t have to tag my entry with anything related to ‘exams’ anymore. Booyeah!

Ramblings

Okay, originally, this post was supposed to be about how biostats killed my brain (it did)…but then I realised that the last ten (?) posts of mine in this blog are all about exams, school, brain death, etc etc. So I thought ‘How boring!’ (Okay, so maybe these weren’t the exact words). So I set off to think of something new to write and so far I came up with….

nothing.

-__-lll

Hmph. I never claimed to be much of a writer anyway. So I’ve decided to just write about whatever pops up in my brain. Which is mostly ramblings. Hence the title. Anyway, I’ve recently discovered that my cousin have a blog! I was just browsing through, she mostly wrote in Indonesian, which got me thinking, I haven’t written anything in Indonesian in this blog! Pretty weird, considering I am as a matter of fact, Indonesian.

But no, I’m not going to write in Indon. It sounds/looks weird! Honestly, I can’t think of the last time I wrote an entire paragraph in Indon, probably back in primary school when I was still studying back there. I guess that’s just me. You know, being Indonesian, a lot of people expected me to join the Indonesian Society in my Uni but I didn’t. I never felt the need to!

Some Indonesians, I’ve noticed, only socialise with other Indonesians. If so, why do you choose to study overseas? Isn’t the purpose of studying overseas is to meet new people, form a global network (etc etc, not gonna talk about it). Maybe they are just looking for a sense of familiarity? I guess I’m different… I mean since I’ve been here for about 6 years, so I guess I’ve integrated into the society here? You’ll be surprised at how many people actually think I’m Singaporean haha. But I still consider Indonesia as home though. Oh and don’t get me wrong here, I have nothing against Indonesia, I love my country and I’m proud to be an Indonesian. This paragraph is just me wondering about the attitude of some foreign students here (I told you in the beginning that I would be rambling didn’t I)

On other news, my phone died (AGAIN). I can’t even turn it on for more than one minute. I think there’s something wrong with the battery, so I’ll try buying a new battery. See if it works.

Wow this post is getting long.

Damn phone. It is seriously pissing me off. The new battery better work. I can only go buy it after Monday though. Another new reason to look forward to the end of the exams.

Okay, can’t think of anything else to write

ใŠใ‚„ใ™ใฟ๏ผ

P.S. One of these days I need to write an entire post in Japanese. Probably Monday, before Japanese exam, for practice’s sake. [stats exam is from 9am to 11am and Japanese exam is from 5 pm to 7 pm, so I have six hours break -_-]
