I’m a PC….and proud of it

Okay, I was never one to join into the whole Mac vs PC thingy (after all, My laptop run on Windows and I own an iPod Touch, which I love) but I discovered something that cause me to love windows. Why? Behold

P.S. Click pic for larger image

This is how my desktop looks like now! In the second pic, the bar only appear if my mouse is at the bottom of the screen. The programme is called Rocketdock. As for the clocks, calendars, etc apps, it’s from Rainmeter. So basically you download the programme, after which you can utilise the various skins to personalise your desktop. I’m not explaining it very well here but you should read their ‘Documentation’ page. The programme is really user-friendly and there are so much skins out there that you can make your desktop completely awesome instead of just the regular old wallpaper and shortcuts. Oh, and as far as I know, both programmes work only in Windows. Yup.

I also bought these cute little speakers today.

They are sooo awesome. Firstly, they are only $20 (bought them at my school’s IT store). Next, they are very portable because of the magnets, as the speakers can stick together and that’s how you can safe space in case you need to bring them around during your travels (which I probably will). Plus, they have a battery port (in addition to an usb port) so I don’t have to lug my laptop around to use these speakers and I can use it with my iTouch! And they are colourful and bright and that makes me happy ūüôā Yay ūüôā

Haha, I feel like such a geek now talking all these tech stuff, but you gotta admit, they are awesome right?

School updates

It’s seems like it has been a really long time since I’ve talked about school in this blog haha (which is the good thing :P). My timetable for this semester is finally confirmed, tutorials and all. It’s slightly better than last semester’s but I still have no free day ūüė¶

My classes are interesting so far, I have to read the Bible for one of it! Nothing controversial, but it certainly brings a new perspective. I also have to read Xenophon: Education of Cyrus, Confucius and Machiavelli’s The Prince. Woww…. I’ll probably dedicate an entry just for this class haha. Interesting reads, the books are expensive though but at least I considered them an investment ūüėõ

Japanese 3 is quite difficult, it deals with a lot more grammar and linguistics, but at least I like my sensei ūüôā He’s very funny haha. Oh yeah, that reminded me, I wanted to write an entry in Japanese but have not done so until now!

Ah well, gotta go print my notes now!

Stolen Child by W.B. Yeats

Where dips the rocky highland
Of Sleuth Wood in the lake,
There lies a leafy island
Where flapping herons wake
The drowsy water-rats;
There we’ve hid our faery vats,
Full of berries
And of reddest stolen cherries.

Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world’s more full of weeping than you can understand.

Where the wave of moonlight glosses
The dim grey sands with light,
Far off by furthest Rosses
We foot it all the night,
Weaving olden dances,
Mingling hands and mingling glances
Till the moon has taken flight;
To and fro we leap
And chase the frothy bubbles,
While the world is full of troubles
And is anxious in its sleep.

Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world’s more full of weeping than you can understand.

Where the wandering water gushes
From the hills above Glen-Car,
In pools among the rushes
That scarce could bathe a star,
We seek for slumbering trout
And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams

Come away, O human child!
To to waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world’s more full of weeping than you can understand.

Away with us he’s going,
The solemn-eyed:
He’ll hear no more the lowing
Of the calves on the warm hillside
Or the kettle on the hob
Sing peace into his breast,
Or see the brown mice bob
Round and round the oatmeal-chest.

For he comes, the human child,
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
from a world more full of weeping than you can understand.

I love this poem more than anything that was ever written. It is enchanting and beautiful but yet melancholy and harrowing at the same time. I wish I could write like this. Loreena Mckennitt sang a song based on this poem which I think perfectly captures its spirits

Last of the holidays

Gah, the holidays are ending and I’m going back to Singapore tomorrow ūüė¶ My mom and my sister are going to Bali tomorrow (Dad’s having a company meeting there, he’s probably in the plane now) and I can’t follow cuz I gotta go back to Sing ūüė¶ At least there’s the tattoo convention to look forward to.

I wanted to post these photos after New Year’s Day but, heh, I forgot. These are the fireworks that was happening literally outside my house (Really, my family spent the entire night watching them from my balcony). My sister took these from her phone:

Pretty, isn’t it? After which we had our first drink of the year:

Rum and coke! It was really nice, probably my favourite alcoholic drink haha! And then from 2nd – 4th Jan, my extended family went to Pelabuhan Ratu (Queen’s Harbour in english) for some family gathering. I will post pics after I got them from my sister.

Well, that’s all the news from me so far I guess. Oh! I’ve finished my first book of the year: The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exup√©ry (Translated by Richard Howard)

My cousin lend it to me and I read it in under an hour! It is a very poignant, simple and charming book. Certainly a classic ūüôā I am currently reading ‘The Enchantress of Florence’ by Salman Rushdie and so far it has been wonderful

It has a Renaissance feel and I simply love the way he write. Very poetic in a certain way. And this book somehow reminds me of ‘The Historian’ by Elizabeth Kostova, which is another favourite book of mine (Highly recommended!)

Okay, mom’s calling. Dinner time!

Thank you for the memories, 2009

Huh, it’s the end of the year again. This is really cliche but time pass by so fast doesn’t it? 2009… was not an easy year, to say the least. Near nervous breakdown, results, stress. That’s not to say I didn’t have any fun this year ūüôā New friends, new experiences, and learn a lot of new things too!

Okay, here’s listing memorable (both bad and good, in no particular order) from 2009:

  • Para-sailing on 20th birthday!
  • New friends that I really really treasure (you know who you are *hugs*)
  • Learn Japanese (and still continuing)
  • Got an iPod Touch ;P
  • Started to get into fashion and stuff
  • Near nervous breakdown during camp prep and exams (worst time of the year)
  • Didn’t draw much this year so I’m hoping to pick up again next year
  • Forensics class (fun)
  • Received another batch of letters from my beloved students in Yunnan in June

There are much much more but those are the things I could think of right now. I think, for me, 2009 was a year of learning. I learn to let go, to keep my distance, to try new things and meet new people. Cried a lot this year, laughed a lot too, so there’s a balance haha. One of the most important thing I’ve learned in 2009 is, I think, to let go. Made the conscious choice to not be involved in any CCA activities and focus more on my studies. It was a sacrifice that I did not regret making. I think I was really tired physically and mentally from all of those activity that I really feel the need to cleanse myself…..but suffice to say, I think I’ve learned a lot this year and I am very glad and grateful for that

Okay, resolutions! I don’t always follow them (hehe…) but I think it set the tone for the year, so I always love making them:

  • Lose weight!!!! I’ve gained weight during the holidays gah! But yes, I really do want to slim down, it opens up so much more options!
  • Take better care of my body
  • Develop my sense of style (haha)
  • Study/ be more hard-working/score really well in exams
  • Continue learning Japanese
  • Hopefully start learning Russian through Livemocha
  • Read more books
  • Draw, maybe even try using new mediums
  • Learn to master photography
  • Be a better friend/keep in touch with my friends
  • Be content with myself a.k.a just let myself be ME ūüėÄ
  • Most importantly, love God with my whole heart and always let Him guide me wherever He wants me to go

To everyone, these moments we’ve shared have been wonderful…[Okay, there are fireworks outside my house now (so pretty…) and it is distracting me so I don’t know how to continue haha]. Thanks for visiting this humble blog, I’m very happy (and puzzled) to see that people are indeed reading this. Thank you and may you be blessed always. To my friends, you are the best! *hugs* Here’s to the wonderful years ahead of us ūüėÄ

I think 2010 will be a great year ūüôā So cheers and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

2:29

Yup, not asleep yet. My sleep cycle is non-existant.

Went for a meet up with the rest of the family. Apparently we are going to have a family gathering at Pelabuhan Ratu on 2nd Jan. Hopefully it will be fun (I honestly don’t know what to expect) but definitely bringing my iPod Touch (I can’t live without it now….gah, why can’t my dorm room have wifi?! Hmph)

I am crazily thinking of getting a Twitter……I have always thought of it as the ultimate exercise in narcissism, I mean, do you really think people want to know about what you are thinking right now? ‘the coffee taste nice’ O_0 But then again…I don’t know, if I have a twitter I’ll just keep it private (aka not telling anyone the username and not link it anywhere, not even here) and I don’t think I’ll ‘friend’ anyone, I mean, I don’t think any of my close friends tweet (pretty ironic goal for a social networking site).

The reason why I want to get it cuz I think it can be fun. I mean, I get a lot of random thoughts popping by in my head, so I thought it would be fun to record it down. I honestly don’t care if people read it or not, it is not meant to be read by anyone but me anyway. I’ll probably get it on a whim, just like my tumblr account (which I love, it’s my online scrapbook for gorgeous photos). One deciding factor will be the right app (shows how dependent I am on my iPod Touch), didn’t realise there are so many apps. And you have to pay for some (a lot) of them! No way, I’m getting a free one. I just want to jot down random thoughts, is that so hard? I don’t care about those ‘replies’ ,’followers’ or whatever other nonsense they have.

Hmph…who knows. Like I’ve said, if I do get it, it will be on a whim. Not now, if I do it now, knowing me, I’ll just post once a month or something like that

Wow, this is longer than I originally intended. One more song and then I’ll go to sleep. Dad is cooking turkey for tomorrow! Can’t wait ūüėÄ

Merry Christmas Everyone!

It’s Christmas! Happy Christmas! I love you!

To everyone out there, may this Christmas be a joyous and wonderful one. To all my friends who are reading this, I ‚̧ you and thanks for being in my life. To passing strangers, you are loved ūüôā

Yay, it’s Christmas!

Daily report

Hi!

Wow, I really haven’t blog for quite some time huh? Mainly it is because I don’t really know what to say. I’ve been feeling restless lately, especially with my hair. I feel like I’m constantly having bad hair days! I wanna try to go for the hair smoothing process, I’m sick of my hair being uncontrollable! I’ll probably go do it tomorrow or Wednesday, hopefully it turns out well!

Last friday was holiday here in Indo so went out with the family for some shopping haha. Went to Sushi Tei for lunch and then me and nana went off to do our own shopping. I bought a bag, a cardigan and a scarf. Didn’t buy clothes cuz I didn’t see anything that I liked. Will probably take pictures later and update this post.

Oh yeah, we went to see Avatar on saturday. Well…one thing you should know about that show is that you shouldn’t watch that movie for the plot (which is super generic), you watch that movie for the special effects (which were really awesome by the way even though at some points it looks as if the director was high on LSD during filming)

Don’t know why I’m feeling this restless…probably sign that shark week is coming soon (at least I hope this is the reason). Anyway, I still feel like doing some shopping so I’ll probably drag my sister to the mall soon ūüėÄ

P.S. Haha, you know Manda, originally I was planning to leave P&P&Z here but since you wanted to borrow it I’ll bring it back ^^
